Jaro Renout
Musician, Owner Checkpoint Charlie
I’m Jaro Renout, born in Amsterdam in 1963, grew up in the centre and the Wild Wild West of the city. I’m one of the owners of Checkpoint Charlie. I’m a more of a musician than a film buff, but I love all arts, and especially moving pictures, and it’s great to be able to participate in this event. I worked at Amsterdam’s second most famous venue, the Melkweg for ten years, saw things that defy any movie concept, and the same goes for playing in bands and touring Europe. My primary love was punk rock, my everlasting one is hip hop. Currently trying to lose my ‘taste’ in music in order to be able to listen to anything that falls onto my path. Music is too big for taste. I still play in a couple of bands; Amsterdelics & De Porders, and also in a very new project), I’m a dj (a good one, which I can finally say after 27 years of trying very hard), and I write random stuff.Hope this qualifies me a little bit. Looking forward to seeing you in Amsterdam!
