A CLICK AWAY
A Short Film by Tamnay Tushar
A CLICK AWAY announces the arrival of a filmmaker with a precise emotional sensibility and a confident command of cinematic restraint. In his directorial debut, Tanmay Tushar crafts a tender meditation on loneliness, chance, and the quiet ways in which human connection can restore meaning. Rather than leaning on overt drama, the film unfolds in the margins—through silence, gesture, and the subtle choreography of two lives briefly intersecting.
The narrative follows Chris, a withdrawn photographer, and Ava, a vibrant stranger whose apparent openness conceals her own solitude. Their meeting, sparked by an ordinary accident, is rendered with a sense of gentle inevitability. Tushar allows the relationship to develop without urgency, trusting the audience to attune themselves to the emotional undercurrents beneath the surface. In doing so, the film captures a deeply human truth: connection often arrives not through grand gestures, but through small, unguarded moments.
This emotional authenticity is further reinforced by the performances of Byron Donovan and Sophie Carson, both remarkably credible and effective. Their nuanced acting is supported by dialogue that embraces a realist style without ever slipping into banality, allowing character and emotion to emerge organically rather than through exposition.
Formally, A CLICK AWAY embraces a minimalist aesthetic that mirrors its thematic concerns. Carefully composed frames, measured pacing, and an attentive use of stillness establish a contemplative rhythm. The interplay between shadow and light functions not merely as visual design, but as emotional architecture—charting a gradual movement from isolation toward openness. Everyday details—a spilled coffee, a lingering look, a shared silence—are elevated into moments of quiet poetry, reinforcing the film’s belief in the expressive power of the ordinary.
Despite its modest production scale, the film demonstrates a clear auteurist vision. Tushar’s background in theatre and visual storytelling is evident in the precision of the performances and in the harmony between image and emotion. His dual role as writer, producer, and editor allows the film to maintain a cohesive tone, resulting in a work that feels intimate, intentional, and fully realized. This achievement has already been recognized with the Best First Time Director – Short Film award at the Amsterdam New Cinema Film Festival (November 2025).
